EADS Defence & Security inaugurates new Elancourt site, a Centre of Excellence for Defence & Security

  • The first French site dedicated to defence and security gathering 2500 employees
  • Major EADS competencies in defence and security systems combined at a single site
  • Operational units grouped together to optimise system design

27  September  2007

Today EADS Defence & Security (DS) inaugurates its new Elancourt site in the presence of Mrs Michèle Alliot-Marie, Minister of the Interior, Overseas France and Local Authorities, and under the direction of Mr Louis Gallois, EADS Chief Executive Officer.

In 2007, EADS DS integrated at Elancourt, in the Saint-Quentin en Yvelines industrial zone, all the activities of the EADS Defence & Security (DS) Division in the Ile-de-France region (excluding MBDA). Eight EADS DS sites in the Paris area have been combined to constitute the first French Centre of Excellence in defence and security systems within the EADS Group. The decision comes in response to a desire to achieve operational cohesion, to anticipate new business areas of growth and to optimise industrial capacity.

The Elancourt site is named “MetaPole,” representing the system-of-systems architecture expertise of EADS Defence & Security.

The 2,500 high-level engineers and technicians – from a variety of complementary disciplines – currently working at Elancourt allow EADS DS to consolidate its activity as a major system integrator, offering its customers complete solutions combining the best technologies.

Its dual competence in defence and security – based on the convergence between intelligence and command systems and fixed and mobile telecommunications and its profound expertise in platforms – makes EADS Defence & Security an acknowledged French player in defence and security systems.

In addition, EADS DS possesses the know-how of each of its home countries and is well established in certain European nations: Germany, the UK, Spain and Finland.

EADS DS also has many years of international experience, highlighted by major successes, particularly in secure radio communications, command and control systems , global security systems, UAVs and defence electronics. These successes give the company the credentials of a European engineering leader and architect of defence and security systems.

The focal point for the presence of EADS DS in France, the Elancourt site will allow EADS DS to bring to France and to each of its home countries the best European solution. The Elancourt site raises the profile of EADS DS as a partner of choice for the French state, and has the potential to contribute to the international development of EADS.

EADS Defence & Security is a systems solutions provider combining military air systems, missile systems, communications and intelligence systems, global security solutions, sensor and avionics systems, as well as test and support solutions into a single effective network. In 2006, DS – with its around 23,000 employees – achieved revenues of € 5.9 billion.

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2006, EADS generated revenues of € 39.4 billion and employs a workforce of about 116,000.
